Profile

Rui Machete is a jurist with a long and diverse career, combining legal practice with university teaching, as well as holding positions in public service companies and other public institutions.
He taught Public Law (Constitutional and Administrative Law) and Political Science at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, the Faculty of Law of the Catholic University of Portugal, and ISCTE-IUL.
He has published numerous works in the fields of Administrative Law and Public Law and was the Director of the Environmental Law and Land Use Planning Journal.
He served as Administrator of the Bank of Portugal (1981–1983) and as President of the Executive Board of the Luso-American Development Foundation (1988–2010).
He has had an extensive civic and political career, being a founding member of SEDES, a founding member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), an elected deputy in several legislatures, and a member of various constitutional governments.
