Profile

Yvette Kace Centeno Moreira, university professor, poet, novelist, and essayist. Of German and Polish descent, she specialised in Germanic studies, in which she earned her doctorate from the University of Lisbon.

A full professor at the NOVA University of Lisbon (now retired), with a focus on German literature and comparative literature, she has an extensive published body of work, much of it dedicated to Fernando Pessoa. Since 1978, when she published Fernando Pessoa: Tempo, Solidão, Hermetismo, she has released six more essay collections on Pessoa, the latest of which was published in Leipzig (Germany).

Her extensive work, primarily consisting of literary studies (on Goethe and Hermann Hesse, in addition to Fernando Pessoa), also includes poetry, fiction, theatre, children’s literature, and numerous translations, particularly from German.

She served as Director of ACARTE at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

She has been awarded the Prémio Jacinto do Prado Coelho and, in Germany, the Bundesverdienstkreuz 1. Klasse. She was also honoured in France with the title Chevalier de l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques and again in Germany with the Verdienstkreuz 1. Klasse.

Her works have been translated into French, Spanish, and German.
