Zulmira Santos is Full Professor of Portuguese Literature and Culture (XVI-XVIII) at the Department of Portuguese and Romance Studies, Faculty of Arts, Universidade do Porto, Portugal. His research interests and publications include Portuguese Literature and Culture (fiction and poetry 16th to 18th century); Book History (16th-18th); Religious Literature (16th to 18th); Ethics and spirituality in the instruction of the «fine courtier»;
She has been PI (Principal Investigator ) of the Research Project «PTDC/HAH/72899/2006» Spirituality and the Court (16th to 18th century) and member of the research projects «Letras de frailes: textos, cultura escrita y franciscanos en Portugal y en el Imperio portugués (siglos XVI-XVIII» – HAR2011-23523 (PI – Federico Palomo) and «Arcadia Babélica. Usos del castellano, competencias plurilingües, cambio de paradigmas identitarios en las academias portuguesas del antiguo régimen» (PI-Pedro E. Rosa Grincho-Serra).
Teaching activity is currently centred on scientific methodologies applied to Portuguese Literature and Culture (XVI-XVIII), and «Literature» of Portuguese Colonization.
Zulmira Santos has been Head of the Department of Portuguese and Romance Studies (2007-2010; 2014-2022), Director of the Master «Estudos Literários, Culturais e Interartes» (2014 -2018) and member of the Scientific Committees of the PHD Program «Estudos Literários Culturais e Interartísticos» of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto and of the Erasmus Mundus PhD program “”TEEME: Text and Event in Early Modern Europe”” (http://www.teemeurope.eu/), resulting from a consortium between the universities of Kent, Berlin (Freie Universität), Praga and Porto. She has been a member of MOVES – Migration and Modernity: Historical and Cultural Challenges, a Marie Skłodowska-Curie European Joint Doctorate.
