The Alberto Sampaio History Prize, instituted by the Academy of Sciences of Lisbon, the municipalities of Braga, Guimarães and Vila Nova de Famalicão and the Martins Sarmento Society, is designed to honour this leading figure in Portuguese historiography and to encourage historical study and research in Portugal. The prize, worth 6,000 euros, is funded in equal parts by the municipalities of Braga, Guimarães and Vila Nova de Famalicão.
The prize is intended to honour a historical research study in the field of Portuguese economic and social history, or in other historiographical fields associated with the legacy of Alberto Sampaio.
