Profile

I earned my degree in Meteorology, Oceanography, and Geophysics from the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Lisbon in 2006, followed by a Master’s in Geophysical Sciences in 2007 and a PhD in cold climate processes in 2011. That same year, I joined the research department at the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) in Reading, UK. In 2017, I moved to the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Lisbon / Instituto Dom Luiz as a researcher. Since 2020, I have been a researcher at the Portuguese Weather Service (IPMA) in the Earth Observations Unit.

My research primarily focuses on land surface processes and their significance within Earth system models and meteorological forecasting systems. I have a particular interest in numerical modeling and remote sensing of land surface processes, large-scale hydrology, land surface influences on sub-seasonal to seasonal atmospheric predictability, drought monitoring and forecasting, and the role of land surface in climate projections.
