José Remesal Rodríguez earned his Ph.D. in History from the Complutense University of Madrid (1977). Historian, archaeologist, and epigraphist. Full Professor of Ancient History at the University of Barcelona (1988–) and founder of the Centro para el Estudio de la Interdependencia Provincial en la Antigüedad Clásica at the same institution.
His main field of research is the study of food production and trade in the Roman Empire and their political and economic implications. He is a member of the Real Academia de la Historia (Madrid), the Deutsches Archäologisches Institut (Berlin), the Real Academia Sevillana de Buenas Letras (Seville), and the Istituto di Studi Romani (Rome).
Among his numerous published works, La Bética en el concierto del Imperio Romano (2011) stands out.
